I still remember my Goa trip that I had planned just after my board exams got over. My friends and some other family members were skeptical about my trip. It was my first solo trip and moreover it was during March and April. They felt March isn’t an ideal season to visit Goa but I was determined to visit Goa. In one of our textbook I had read about ‘Shimgotsav’ in Goa and since then I always wanted to visit Goa to have firsthand experience of Shimgotsav or Holi.
‘Shimgotsav’ or spring festival has been celebrated in Goa during the full moon day in the month of ‘Phalguna’. This festival is fusion of holi and carnivals. It is popular across the country as parades do take place during Shimgotsav and it has become center of attraction for the tourists. I was very anxious to be in Goa for holi or the shimgotsav and the Carnival parade. These parades exhibit the vibrant culture of Goa in most unique way.
This, being my first solo trip I thought of enjoying every possible activity that I could. Before being in Goa I had always nurtured a misconception that the only place for accommodation is either hotel or lodges but as soon as I stepped in onto the Goan soil I came to know that hostel culture is very popular and affordable in Goa. Hostels in Goa were among my first dwelling places in Goa. Whether you are in North Goa or South Goa you will definitely find budget friendly and clean hostels in Goa.
I was told by some veteran tourists that March cannot be an ideal season to visit Goa but Goa itself had proven all those misconceptions wrong. It’s certain that during this time the days are hot and evenings are humid however if you are booking air conditioned hostel then weather doesn’t become an obstacle in your expedition. If we ignore the climate of Goa during March, Goa has plenty to offer even during March and April. Late March and early April is generally ending season of tourist activities in Goa so most of the hotels, resorts and Hostels in Goa offer attractive discounts on room bookings. Another reason for visiting Goa during this season is, one can explore the serenity of the popular Goan beaches. During this time most of the tourists retreat from the beaches making Goa less crowded.
This time is an ideal time for shopping, being deserted of tourists one can have better bargains at the various markets in Goa. Especially some local markets (Mapusa Market, Calangute Market and Panjim Market) and Saturday Night Market becomes shoppers stop during this time where buyers can seal the deal at good negotiations.
During March and April Arabian Sea has mild currents which make it conducive for water sports and swimming. Moreover being less crowded the water sports activities too can be booked at an affordable charges. The evenings are generally breezy during this time and it makes parasailing the must do activity at this time.
So, do not hold your horse back and get ready for your serene and economic vacation in Goa in this summer.
